A Wonderful and Perfect Friend---John 15 vs 15
How will you classify a friend? Who do you see as a friend? How sure are you that the person you call your friend isn't the enemy in disguise? These and many more are the critical questions you should ask yourself when choosing a friend. My father always says,'a friend will not leave you the same way he meets you;its either he takes you up or he brings you down'. This saying have gotten me to ask myself 'Are my friends increasing me or reducing me? What exactly am I gaining from them?'. As humans, it is very necessary to mingle with people and have friends but also, the kind of friends we keep matters a lot because you will reflect that person after sometime. The Pro-Chancellor of Covenant University always says,"If you can count your friends with your fingers on both hands and your toes on both legs then you are irresponsible"
I remember a particular friend i had while in my 100 level, we were so attached to each other that you will always see us together at every point in time. However, this friend of mine is a very social and popular person in our Institution and I was the quiet and indoors person and since we always move together, I will always tag along whenever she was going out especially in the evenings. People began to tell me that I behave so much like her and sometimes they mistaken me for her (despite the size ooh). It became so bad when my actions and the things i did began to reflect her. It was then i knew that the friendship is doing more harm than good to me. I saw myself doing things normal Norah wouldn't do and I asked myself a question one day in the bathroom, (Omo, u sure say no be juju dis girl use hypnotize me?) Are you sure you are not being hypnotize? It took me months to realize that i was going of the track my parents had set before me. I had to then listen to the voice of reasoning and He told me what to do and how to go about it without offending anybody. I was able to reduce the way the friendship affected me by reducing the way i interacted with this particular person.
What's my point exactly? Half of what you project to the world will reflect the kind of company you keep as friends. Friends have the biggest effect on us and if we aren't careful, these effect may come in the negative aspect. If you are not able to answer this question,'Have this friendship increased me positively?", then you should check the kind of person you call a friend.
The question then is, Who is a Wonderful and Perfect Friend?
"Greater Love has no-one than this,that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you" John 15 vs 13-15
I believe this passage of the Scriptures explains better who a friend is. A Perfect and Wonderful friend in one Mighty, Reviving, Powerful,Strong, Supreme word is JESUS. He is a Wonderful and Perfect friend. Oh,what a friend we have in Jesus,all our sins, pains, humiliation, frustration, shame, agony He bore. There is to an extent where human friendship can go but the friendship with Jesus is beyond human comprehension. If you relate with Jesus the way we relate with our earthly friends, we will definitely reflect Him. If you can critically access your friends with the microscope of God's laboratory, you will be surprised that 99.99999% of your 'friends' will not meet God's standard. Remember, half of what you project to the world reflects the kind of friends you keep......Choose wisely
